Why Wii outsells Xbox360 and PS3 but I still wouldn’t have one
When Nintendo launched the Wii they indirectly used a Blue Ocean Strategy (whether they intended it or not is a different matter) to target a demographic that traditionally didn’t buy consoles like young kids, girls and women. The xbox and ps3 is mostly bought by teenage boys or men but you will be hard pressed to find women buy one.
Gaming consoles are generally regarded as evil promoting laziness, hours of time wasted in front of the television etc. but as people become more health conscious the Wii will stand out as the one console that is health-conscious. The good among evil.
Nintendo with the Wii introduced a console that appealed to not only men but also women. Playing on a Wii helps you workout (sort of), which makes it more attractive for mom’s who would rather have their kids play games and be active at the same time. The release of Wii Fit just strengthens this argument and now you can do yoga on it and people love that (Yoga is the new buzzword in fitness). People who are afraid of going to the gym or find it boring love the Wii because its fun. But I find it hard to believe that it gives you a workout like the treadmill or weights.
But as far as I am concerned I think the Wii is very gimmicky. Sure it has a novel motion sensor feature but the graphics look like lego blocks, is purely a gaming console and the games on it do not appeal to me. If I need a workout I play sports or hit the gym, but when I play a game on my console I want to feel like its realistic, has cutting edge graphics and looks good. I want my console to serve as a multimedia device, streaming videos from my home server etc.
So the next time someone says “Wii would like to play”, I’d politely decline.
Completed Gears of War
The first game I completed on my xbox360 and it is one of the best games i’ve played. The gameplay is unique but once you get practice its awesome !! The background music is kick ass, graphics are phenomenal (back when it was released). I usually leave games unfinished but I completed this one because it kept me involved and entertained. Gears of war 2 has been released and considering how good this game was I am definitely going to try it out.
